The Health Professionals Council (HPC) Seychelles is proud to be represented, alongside the Seychelles Medical and Dental Council (SMDC), at the 28th Annual Conference of the Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) in Accra, Ghana.
Representing the HPC are Mr. Morison Julie, Mr. Christopher Barallon, and Ms. Jeanne Fanny‑Al‑Abdulla, with Dr. Vivianne Camille representing the SMDC.
This year’s conference brings together health regulatory authorities from across the continent to exchange experiences, explore regulatory reforms, and strengthen collaboration towards more inclusive, responsive, and effective health regulation.
During the keynote address, Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah, highlighted the profound transformation underway in global health regulation. He noted that technology is rapidly reshaping the health landscape, expanding the number and diversity of actors involved. As he emphasised, “we can no longer talk about the traditional health workforce alone” today’s health ecosystem includes communities, economists, technologists, and new categories of practitioners.
Dr. Asamoa‑Baah reminded regulators that regulation must evolve, not only reacting to change but anticipating it. He drew a powerful analogy: dinosaurs became extinct because they failed to adapt to environmental change. In the same way, regulatory systems must remain relevant, agile, and forward‑looking. Responsive regulation, he stressed, is not about reacting quickly it is about ensuring regulation continues to serve the needs of the environment in which it operates.
Echoing this, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, captured the essence of modern regulatory reform: “Our purpose is not to regulate more, but to regulate better.”
As Seychelles continues to strengthen its regulatory systems, opportunities such as AMCOA 2026 are invaluable. They allow us to learn from regional and international counterparts, reflect on emerging trends, and contribute to the collective advancement of health professional regulation across Africa and within our own nation.
